Currently v.14

Eating so much guacamole. I discovered Wholly Guacamole individual serving packets, and the husband and I are freaking obsessed with them. I don't know how these haven't been a staple in our fridge before.

Loving my hard working husband. He is awesome, and really pretty bad ass if you ask me.

Missing the school year. I promise, I won't talk about summer vacation problems all summer long, but danggggg this first full week of summer vacation has been a rough readjustment to life with kids at home 24/7 while trying to run a business, and keep the house in decent(ish) shape.

Moving piles of papers from my office paper piles to the trash, and to the recycling pile, and to the filing cabinet. I'm obsessed with getting rid of the paper hoarding madness that I've had going on here for the past 4 or 5 years.

Taking a lot of time to be grateful this week for the safety of my family, and our home. The tornados in Oklahoma this week have broken my heart. I am a former military brat, and didn't have a home state growing up, but the hubby and I (and our crazy boys) have lived in Oklahoma for 7 years out of the 8 1/2 years of our marriage, and Oklahoma is our home. Oklahoma people are my people. This state is my place. I want to spend the rest of my life living in this same town and state, and I feel a huge connection with the people who also call Oklahoma home. It sounds so cheesy, I know it does, but I love this state with my whole heart. Thank you all so much for supporting my fellow Oklahoman's as they work through this horrific tragedy. You can find a great list of ways to donate here, and also, through June 4th, I am donating 100% of proceeds from the sale of this block to the Oklahoma Red Cross.

What are you all eating, loving, missing, moving, and taking this week?

Friday Finds!

Here are some of my favorite finds from the week.

Happy freakin weekend!

Currently v.13

Hoping to finish up painting the laundry room this weekend. I'm so excited to show the whole re-do to you all. It has turned out better than I ever thought it would, and I am pumped.

Reading Mindy Kaling's "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?" I like it. I like good, lighthearted, funny reads. I have enough anxiety on my own without other people's real (or fiction) drama on the pages of books that I read.

Wearing shorts and short sleeved shirts consistently for the past week or so without having to pull out a hoodie. We've lived here for 6 1/2 years, and I think that this year we've had to wear pants, hoodies, and jackets longer than any other year. I'm not complaining though, because pretty soon it'll be 100 degrees, and I will hate it.

Making schedules for the summer. Our (amazing) babysitter is on board for coming twice a week so that I can get work done, or go get groceries by myself without losing my mind over the endless "can we get these?" questions. Also, it's already been proven in these first two days of summer vacation that my boys' plans for summer includes snacking all day every day, whenever it strikes their fancy (or they're bored). So they now have a summer schedule for meals, and snack times because I can't handle being asked 4,327 times a day if they can have something to eat.

Playing with ideas, DIY projects, and decorative things that I have around in the garage or closets to make the rooms in this house feel more "ahhhhh", and less "ughhhh".  It's making me very very happy.

Time is a Monster That Cannot Be Reasoned With.

"Time is a monster that cannot be reasoned with. It responds like a snail to our impatience, then it races like a gazelle when you can't catch a breath."

That's the most memorable line (to me) in the movie, Simon Birch. I loved that movie years and years ago, but even still, all these years later, I think of that line all the time.

The school year is coming to an end.

It's coming to an end at approximately 9:15 tomorrow morning as my kindergartner has his graduation, and will then be a first grader. The school year will come to an end again at 2:45 when my first grader gets in the car after his last day of school, and will then be a second grader.

Time freaking flies. It's terrifying, and awesome, and sad, and then happy all at the same time.

Live it up, my friends.

Learning (again...) for the 957,000th time in my life that you just cannot make people behave/respond/react the way that you would like for them to, or that you expect them to. They will do what they do, and my own hopes and expectations concerning their behavior/responses/reactions doesn't change that.

Gathering plans and ideas for how to handle summer vacation. The thing is, the dread of summer break isn't solely to do with the fact that my kids can't even spend a 2 day weekend together without fighting about every single (ridiculous) thing, so three months of fighting is overwhelming.

One big part of the dread I have comes from the lack of predictable routine, but mostly, my dread come from the fact that we have two neighbor boys, and two neighbor girls that are "friends" with my boys (when it's convenient for them, and when they think my kids are playing with cool enough things), and these kids also have a huge respect problem, and if you know how I feel about raising my kids at all, you know that my main concerns for my kids are that they feel completely loved, and that they show respect to everyone everywhere. The lack of respect thing from these kids is stressing me out, especially the fact that my kids are going to be outside much of the summer, which inevitably means being around these kids, who don't have a lot (or any) parental supervision... I'm freaking stressed out.

Giving pizza to my family for dinner because nothing is easier on this night. It's been a week.

Working on (big) new things for the shop ;) I'm so excited to share.... Soon...

Playing this video this week, and just whoa. It's emotional, I don't know why, but also it's just amazing, and so so beautiful. The song that accompanies the performance is amazing, and I have been playing it on repeat for much of the past week since I first heard it.

Laundry Room Inspiration Board.

Last week I mentioned that my project-per-month project for May is going to be our laundry room.

I am set to get started on it this weekend, and I am pumped.

Here's a summary of what I'm going for.

1. Hampton Bay Oil Rubbed Broze Flushmount. 2. Paint color by Dutch Boy, "The Edge of Night". 3. Undie art by Leonora of Yellow Heart Art. Somehow I plan to attach it to the wall :) 4. Red metal bins... I already have a few in the laundry room, which I plan to make use of, so they are definitely in the plans. Photo credit: here. 5. Large, oversized vinyl wall decor... Location TBD. Photo credit: here.
6. Red. My color plans are grey, off white (thanks to the cabinets that I am too lazy to repaint right now), and red. There will be splashes of other colors to coordinate with our kitchen color scheme of basically the rainbow. Ha. The laundry room is directly off of the kitchen, where the  kitchen/dining room walls are all painted in the same color that I am using for the laundry room. Photo credit: here.

I set my budget at $50.00 for this laundry room project...  I've realized in the past day or two that that's a far fetched budget for this, but I'm going to try to stay on or under it. (That's what she said.)
